Nazareth accepts a diverse population of individuals who have addictions of varying nature and degrees (drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex, smoking, internet and the like), as well as individuals with varying behavioral and affective problems. The program is seen as a lifetime investment that is a long-term process with long-term results. Our philosophy is simple: a person changes when motivation is present. Unfortunately, majority of the residents that are admitted do not want to change. Hence, we at Nazareth are willing to work on that motivation through a multi-dimensional approach of behavior modification, psychotherapy, family systems and support, spirituality and a thorough re-entry process into society.
Change in this setting is done from the outside in, not the inside out. Hence, behavior modification is done through a structured Therapeutic Community (TC) modality where daily life consists of working hard, learning discipline, and living in a familial structure where healthy relationships are built in contrast to the deteriorated relationships present before treatment began. This type of lifestyle is vastly different from the kind of life residents have led when they are brought in. Before one can adapt to the program, much transition and adjustment are needed.
